Developing a scalable digital credential platform for Global Certifica 

Global Certifica is transforming digital credential management with a scalable web platform that already enables more than 11 institutions to issue, manage, and verify credentials for more than 6,500 credential holders. 

Its offering is designed to help educational and training organizations modernize the way they issue, manage, protect, and verify academic credentials. 

To turn this offering into a scalable technology solution, Global Certifica worked with Bertoni Solutions to develop a responsive web platform capable of managing the full lifecycle of digital credentials. 

What began as an MVP evolved progressively in response to new business needs and feedback from real users. Today, the platform includes new features, integrations, and capabilities that enable Global Certifica to support increasingly complex certification scenarios. 

Global Certifica is a Colombian education technology company that wanted to turn its digital certification concept into a platform capable of supporting the growth of its business. The challenge was to transform an initial product concept into a functional, scalable solution that could accommodate different types of users, the full credential lifecycle, and integrations with external systems. 

The platform needed to support sophisticated organizational structures, external integrations, robust credential verification mechanisms, customization, and requirements associated with expansion into European markets. 

Rather than developing a static application based solely on the initial requirements, the project became the continuous development of a product capable of evolving alongside Global Certifica’s business. 

The project began with a requirements analysis phase to define Global Certifica’s main credential management flows and build the initial platform for pilot use in real-world environments. 

Global Certifica had the overall product vision and knew what it wanted to achieve with the platform. The challenge was to develop those ideas in enough detail to turn them into a viable solution and structure the development process. 

Together with Bertoni Solutions, Global Certifica carried out a requirements analysis phase in which the main product flows, users, features, and priorities were defined and organized. This process turned the initial ideas into concrete requirements and established a clear scope for the first iterations. 

With this foundation, Global Certifica was able to move forward with MVP development and later bring the platform into its first real-world use cases.

The product was designed around the credential lifecycle, enabling users to create and edit templates and credentials, assign them to credential holders, and facilitate their subsequent management and sharing. 

As the first versions began to be used in real-world scenarios, new needs and opportunities emerged to improve the experience. Building on this foundation, the product evolved through successive stages of development, adding blockchain-based verification, API and Moodle integrations, multi-organization capabilities, GDPR-related functionality, and broader customization options. 

The collaboration with Bertoni Solutions began in 2024 and has continued beyond the initial launch. Since then, Global Certifica has continued to rely on the team to support successive stages of product evolution, and the product remains active and under development. 

As the platform evolved, the QA process supported each iteration to validate critical product flows and maintain the stability of the solution. 

Testing focused particularly on sensitive processes such as the individual or bulk creation and assignment of credentials, data integrity, correct delivery to credential holders, the responsive experience, and the operation of integrations such as blockchain and APIs. 

Global Certifica went from an initial product vision to a production platform capable of bringing its digital certification offering to institutions and thousands of credential holders.

Today, the platform demonstrates real adoption:

• 169 credential types are managed on the platform

• 11+ institutions use the solution

• 10,300+ credentials have been issued

• 6,500+ credential holders manage their credentials 

Beyond these figures, Global Certifica now has a technology foundation on which it can continue developing its value proposition, introduce new certification scenarios, and respond to emerging needs as platform usage grows. 

The collaboration with Bertoni Solutions that began in 2024 has also continued beyond the initial launch, with new stages of development focused on further evolving the product.
